My experience here was simply overwhelming, but in a good way 🤣. There were so many options to pick from clothing, jewelry, and even artwork. I totally recommend the art section. They have lots of interesting stuff at a good price 👍 their pottery and tea sets are a little bit expensive, but they are worth it 👌 …
This is the most well organized sale and always full of unexpected treasures. The volunteers do a great job and are very enthusiastic about the sale. Always happy with time spent at the White Elephant Sale.
Exciting, diverse, well thought out. As a first timer I had no idea what to expect. Every item imaginable was displayed in a gigantic open area. Spacious walkways accommodated those carrying baskets as well as those on electric walkers. The volunteer staffers were ever pleasant and paid constant attention to orderliness of the displays. A wonderful experience.
Another great day shopping at the OMCA White Elephant Sale. Rock bottom prices of 50%-75% off almost everything in the warehouse. Plus books by the bag or box for $8-$10. Already looking forward to 2024.
I have been going since I moved to the Bay Area, over a decade ago. I truly love this place, and half my apartment is from here, it’s magical. I LOVE that they are doing an entire month now, and that you need to buy tickets this keeps it at a reasonable pace. I went the day after the presale and it was delightful. I found tons of treasures, there was an easy seamless check out in every department. I highly recommend going, as it’s still chock full of treasure. They are still getting new donations everyday!
I actually like what they are doing so much, love their museum, and enjoyed chatting with the volunteers so much, I went right home and volunteered myself!
The White Elephant Sale benefits the Oakland Museum which would be enough to make it worth spending a couple of minutes in there....except you should spend a couple of HOURS there and be amazed at the variety of astounding things people donate so you can buy them. I picked up a Hickey Freeman black suit almost brand new, turns out to be perfectly tailored for me, for $35. Nordstrom sells the same suit for $1500. Deals? Yes they have deals. Parking is tough, but it's worth it.
My daughter bought tickets as a Christmas gift and omg! Four of us filled the SUV with the most amazing treasures. We dont need to go thrifting for a long time. The prices are very fair and we're thrilled to donate to the museum. You need to go! We're heading back in February
Some good gems if you get in early enough but absolute chaos. The ticket and payment system can mean you stand in line forever to pay meaning you miss out on some stuff. But a very wide range from furniture to cutlery to clothes - great if you are furnishing an apartment head to toe and need some affordable basics. If you are looking for diamonds in the rough plan to be the first one in the door during the presale and be prepared to know what you want and make quick decisions as there will be a lot of competition for the good stuff. It’s stressful during the presale.
